₹8,337 a year. That is the extra cost, on the sums below, of driving 120 km to the nearest working centre twice a year after your Ford service centre closed. No invoice shows it. It leaks out through the fuel tank, your calendar and the gap between a Ford bill and a local one.
Once the nearest working Ford centre is 120 km away, a trusted local workshop is the cheaper route, unless your car's resale price rewards an all-Ford history.
- Ford promised parts, service and warranty support in 2021 with no end date; dealers reportedly agreed ten years.
- At 120 km and two services a year, staying authorised costs about ₹8,337 extra.
- That drive pays off only if an all-Ford history adds about ₹41,684 to your resale within five years.
- Book any open recall at an authorised centre once, whichever route you choose.
What did it cost the year your Ford service centre closed?
A closed centre does not remove the cost of a Ford service, it relocates it: on our sums the 120 km drive and a lost day, on top of a pricier bill, add up to ₹8,337 a year.
Start with what Ford committed to. Its 9 September 2021 release says it "will continue to provide customers in India with ongoing parts, service, and warranty support", with parts depots in Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Sanand and Kolkata. It names no end date.
The dealer side is thinner. Autocar India reported on 15 December 2021 that Ford said more than 90 percent of dealers would keep servicing, in more than 240 cities against 258 before, with a ten-year deal for existing cars. That is fewer than 18 cities lost and a pledge running to about 2031, though a count is not a list. A dealer source said part prices were locked for five years, to about December 2026.
Four numbers decide this. The CarDekho tracker put Tamil Nadu diesel at ₹101.55 a litre on 6 November 2026, and an EcoSport owner review on CarDekho's mileage page reports 20 to 21 km a litre on the highway. Divided, that is about ₹5.08 a km, the rate every sum below uses. Divide your own pump price by your own km per litre: that is the first number to own.

The last card deserves a pause. When most of the extra is time and invoice gap, a cheaper litre barely moves your answer. Owners usually compare Ford authorised service against a local mechanic one bill at a time; the one-crack break-even on AppleCare+ shows the better habit, which is to total each route over a year.
Ford promised ten years of service. It never promised the centre would be near you, and distance is the part you pay for.
How far is too far to drive for a Ford service?
Distance matters less than you would expect: on these assumptions each extra 10 km each way adds only about ₹203 a year at two services, while the lost day and the bill gap set the floor.
The grid fixes the ₹5.08 rate and a ₹3,000 per-service floor (a ₹1,500 lost day plus a ₹1,500 bill gap), less the 10 km you would drive locally anyway. Find your one-way distance, then read across at your services a year.
| Km each way | 1 a year | 2 a year | 3 a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 km | ₹3.2k | ₹6.3k | ₹9.5k |
| 60 km | ₹3.6k | ₹7.1k | ₹10.7k |
| 120 km | ₹4.2k | ₹8.3k | ₹12.5k |
| 200 km | ₹5.0k | ₹10.0k | ₹14.9k |
The shaded cell is our base case. One row up saves about ₹1,219 a year, one row down costs ₹1,626 more, and one extra service adds ₹4,168.
Worked example: an EcoSport diesel 120 km from the nearest centre that answers the phone, serviced twice a year. Fuel: 2 × 120 km less the 10 km you would drive locally is 230 extra km × ₹5.08 = ₹1,168.40 a service, ₹2,336.80 for two. Time: a ₹1,500 lost day a service is ₹3,000. Invoice: we assume the authorised bill runs ₹1,500 higher, another ₹3,000; use your last two invoices instead. Total: ₹2,336.80 + ₹3,000 + ₹3,000 = ₹8,337 a year.
Multiply by five and you have the sell-or-keep number: ₹41,684, what an all-Ford history must add to your price across five years of the pledge. Business India News reported on 28 May 2026 that cars with full authorised records sell at "a meaningful premium", but it printed no figure, so price two comparable listings yourself. The usual advice is to stay authorised for resale; we found nothing showing the premium covers this cost. Selling is the third route, and only a quote on your own car can price it.
The chart shows which line to attack first: on the worked example, the lost days and the bill gap each cost more than diesel. It is derived from that example, not a published figure.
Is a local workshop safe for your Ford's records and recalls?
For routine servicing a trusted local workshop is a reasonable fit, but recalls are Ford's to close: its July 2022 diesel recall told owners to book at a service centre, so keep that visit in the plan.
Autocar Pro reported on 29 July 2022 a Ford recall of BS6 diesel EcoSports and sister models over particulate filter efficiency and oil-life issues, fixed free with a new catalytic converter, oxygen sensor and ECU firmware. Check your VIN on Ford's field service actions page (as of 2022), then fold that visit into one of your two yearly services.
The second risk is parts. The same May 2026 report says some are "increasingly being sourced through global Ford networks", with longer lead times and higher costs, though it gives no day counts. Ask your workshop for a lead time first. It sounds fussy; it stops sounding fussy the day your car sits on their lift waiting for a part. Then count the bill gap in years, as in the mini split against window AC payback sum.
Ford's own dealer pages list Suryabala Ford service entries at Kalapatti in Coimbatore and Nallur near Pollachi, with reviews dated October and December 2025. That shows activity, not today's hours, and we could not read the live locator list.
- Phone before you drive; a 2025 review is not an opening-hours guarantee.
- Keep itemised invoices with part numbers; a buyer will ask for them.
- Ask if "Doorstep Service" and "Pick-up And Drop", listed on Ford's India site on 6 November 2026, reach your town; they would shrink the lost-day line.
Check these three about your own situation
- The nearest centre that answers the phone is over 60 km one way.
- A local quote is over ₹1,000 below your last authorised invoice.
- Two comparable listings show a Ford-history premium below your five-year figure.
Our call: switch to a trusted local workshop. This week, pull your last two invoices, run your own kilometres and bill gap through the calculator above, and set its yearly figure, times your years, against the premium on two comparable Ford-history listings. Premium smaller: go local, keep invoices, book the recall visit once. Larger: stay, and book both services in one trip.
How we checked this
We read Ford's 9 September 2021 release, Autocar India's 15 December 2021 report, Ford's Coimbatore dealer page and CarDekho's diesel tracker (6 November 2026). The worked example is derived: 120 km, two services, and assumed lost-day and bill-gap figures. No product was tested hands-on for this article, and the live Ford locator could not be read, so confirm your town on it. Last verified: 6 November 2026. Edited by Ansari, reviewed after publication.
