New Year’s Resolution for a Green New Year

Guest Post By: Veronica S.

As the new year approaches, many of us will carefully consider the changes we need to make in our lives and form resolutions. Commonly, people consider trying to eat better, lose weight, do better in work or school, or finish a personal or hobby project. Perhaps this year, we should also consider a resolution which will aid in preserving the environment of the world and encourage ourselves and others to "go green."

There is a nearly infinite number of New Year's resolutions that can be made to promote eco-friendly behavior. For instance, resolve to only wear organically made clothing. If you run a business, change your company apparel to organically manufactured items using a sustainable green printing process. Clothing made with organically grown cotton does much to help the cause of organic farming. While this trend is slowly catching on, doing what you can to help the cause is never a bad thing.

You can also make a resolution to join the Take Back the Tap campaign by making use of reusable water bottles and drinking tap water rather than expending money on costly and often impure bottled water. This New Year, learn the facts about bottled water and how you can take back the tap. Another related resolution might be to reduce your plastic consumption through the use of cloth grocery bags and reusable water bottles. It's shocking how much plastic can be saved through such simple measures.

For 2010, consider your resolution carefully and think of how such simple measures can have a positive impact on our planet. Even if it's cold and barren outside, you can still go green this January.
